What is a tournament?
A Tournament is a number of linked matches in a game where a large number of players struggle for becoming the final winner. The tournaments on Spigo are played according to the "knock out" principle where players, who lose a match, leave the tournament and players who win pass on to the next match. However you only have to be amongst the better half of the players in your match to proceed. The matches are arranged in a so-called tree structure with the finale to the right followed by semi finals, quarter finals etc. Every participant of a tournament pays a small contribution of Spigos (the stake) to the pool. The pool is split between the 3 winners of the tournament. In some special tournaments you will find extra prizes sponsored by Spigo.

Sign up for tournament
You can see all upcoming tournaments by selecting "Sign up" in the menu to the left. Tournaments open for registrations 30 minutes before they start. Open tournaments are marked with status "Open" in the column to the right in the list. Left to it you often find the expression "Voting", which means that the signed up players vote about which rules should be used in the tournament. You do this in the extended overview of the particular tournament and it's relevant for e.g. playing Yatzy with 5 or 6 dices. To sign up you choose a tournament from the list, click on it and then click on "Sign up tournament" in the extended overview. Please notice that you can only be sign up for one tournament at the time. The most tournaments have a stake in Spigos which is deducted from your account, when you sign up. If you change your mind, you can sign off again and you get your stake back. The pool is split among the 3 best players according to the percentage rate shown in the overview of the particular tournament.

Ready for tournament?
Before the tournament starts it's of course important that you are logged into the game and ready to play. 5 minutes before tournament start you'll find a big green "Ready" button in the lobby of the game, which you have to press when you enter the lobby. By pressing the button you let the tournament know that you are ready to participate. After this you'll see a list of signed up players. The half-transparent names are signed up players who haven't pressed the Ready button yet. When there are 5 minutes left to tournament start, the tournament closes for new sign ups. If there isn't enough players signed up for the tournament it will be canceled and the signed up players will be notificated and get their stake returned.

Tournament start
When the tournament starts the players are allocated to the matches and the tournament system starts carrying out the matches. If an inconsistent number of players signed up for the tournament, certain players will be seeded on a higher level in the tournament tree and have to wait some time for their first match. Doing this you can have an eye on who wins the other matches or check the remaining time of the matches you are waiting for. Next to every match you'll find a percentage between 0 and 100. When a match reaches 100 % it's over. You can also kill the waiting time with a funny waiting game.

Tournament procedure
The matches are played like normal games. The tournament system starts the matches by itself and you automatically get into the right match. After every match the better half of the players proceeds to the next round while the rest of the players are knocked out of the tournament. If you for instance play Yatzy with 4 players per match, the two best players in every match will proceed. After the tournament finale has been carried out, the winners are honored with trophies and they receive their part of the pool of Spigos. If you play a tournament with 2 players per match, like Carrom or Chess, there will be an extra match between the losers of the two semi finals to determine who gets the 3rd place and the bronze trophy.
